Over
the years you have probably heard Dugain picks in some very famous
hands,
among them John.McLaughlin, Al.di.Meola,
Bireli.Lagrène ("The
pick is very important, too. You have to have those thick picks
to
have the round sound." more), George.Benson,
Mike.Stern, Eric.Clapton
and Carlos.Santana
Also many
from the new generation of players who buy through this site
such as
James Valentine and John Mayer.
And yet - perhaps because of its size - it seems
the humble plectrum continues to be the most underestimated piece
of kit in the guitarist's rig.
We spend thousands chasing that elusive sound,
striving after ever more natural tone and feel. ..Vintage
guitars, hand-built amps - nothing is beyond us...
But remember, its the pick that generates the
sound.
. . Hand crafted in France by Jean-Charles
Dugain since 1977, Dugain plectra are fashioned from
natural materials such as ebony, bone, horn, coconut shell,
agate, jasper, bronze and mammoth ivory. . Each
has its own subtly individual sound and feel, and lends itself
to
a particular
style
of playing or instrument type.

"For
pounding nails I have some very nice hammers …it
only took me 40 plus years to look into a better way
to strike my guitar strings…brilliant!
It
took no time at all to find Dugain picks and Billy was a great
help in getting me what I needed. No more cheepo hammers."

"I
wish I could have a whole VAT full of these picks to
sift through & audition because there is so much
variation even within duplicate woods ..."

"I
am writing to thank you for making such an amazing
product. I am constantly baffled by how overlooked
the role the plectrum plays in tone is. The difference
in
warmth, complexity and body between a normal plastic
pick and an ebony Dugain is
as profound as changing from a plastic guitar to a
world class archtop.
The material used and the shape employed in a pick
affect the sound as much as the materials and construction
of
the guitar itself...maybe even more. (Anyway,
feel free to use any of this
text. I mean every word). Thanks
again. Sincerely,"

"I'm
primarily a fingerstyle player these days, on electric
or acoustic guitar. I prefer the sound, plus the feel
and accessibility of having all fingers free. Sometimes
you just want to give the guitar an open-handed slap,
you know?
Well,
a couple of years ago, I heard about picks by a French
maker named Jean-Charles Dugain. Whew, was I impressed.
I got some horn, bone, and ebony picks, and they are the
greatest
sounding picks i've ever played with. Contoured to mold around
your fingers, and made with natural materials. They're expensive,
but hey, look at the price a violinist pays for a bow, or a
wind player for his or her reeds. So, when I do need a pick
for articulation, I grab one of the Dugains."
